UCL Week 6 Roundup: Chelsea defeated by Atalanta, Liverpool, Barcelona victories, others
Atalanta produced a spirited comeback on Tuesday night, handing Chelsea a painful 2–1 defeat in their UEFA Champions League encounter.
Chelsea had gone ahead against the run of play when Joao Pedro finished off a fine delivery from Reece James, giving the Blues a slim advantage despite Atalanta’s early dominance.
But the Italians returned for the second half with renewed aggression, forcing Mauricio Pochettino’s men to defend deeper than planned.
Their pressure eventually paid off as Gianluca Scamacca rose highest to power in a header that brought the game level, setting the stage for a tense finale in Bergamo.
Chelsea’s resistance finally broke in the 83rd minute when Charles De Ketelaere smashed home the winner, completing the turnaround and sealing all three points for the Serie A side.
In Milan, Liverpool managed to put the ongoing Mohamed Salah controversy at the club behind them to grind out a narrow 1–0 victory against Inter.
Dominik Szoboszlai kept his composure from the penalty spot to secure a crucial away win for the Premier League giants, who were far from their fluent best but did enough to leave Italy with maximum points.
Elsewhere on the night, Bayern Munich defeated Sporting 3–1, Monaco edged Galatasaray 1–0, Tottenham cruised to a comfortable 3–0 win over Slavia Prague, while Barcelona battled to a 2–1 victory against Frankfurt.
