Super Eagles retain 26th place in FIFA rankings, slip to fourth in Africa

Nigeria’s Super Eagles have maintained their 26th spot in the latest FIFA men’s world rankings released on Monday, Very Nigerian reports.

Despite holding on to their global position, Eric Chelle’s team dropped to fourth place among African nations in the updated rankings.

The three-time African champions last featured in an international friendly against Portugal in June, where they suffered a 2-1 defeat to the former European champions.

Egypt moved to third position in Africa on the rankings following an impressive outing at the FIFA World Cup 2026.

The Pharaohs were eliminated 3-2 by Argentina in the Round of 16.

Morocco, which made it to the quarter-finals at the World Cup 2026 retained their position as the number one team in Africa, moving one spot from seventh to sixth.

The Terangha Lions of Senegal, dropped three places, but retained second position on the continent.

Algeria, which dropped one place, are the fifth ranked African team.

Globally, newly crowned world champions Spain returned to the summit, while Argentina dropped to second position.

France, England, and Brazil complete the top five teams in the world.

The next FIFA World rankings will be released on Wednesday, 7 October, 2026
