Suspected kidnapper arrested, AK-49 rifle recovered in Nasarawa
The Police Command in Nasarawa State has confirmed the arrest of a suspected kidnapper in Akwanga Local Government Area of the state.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, disclosed this in a statement issued to journalists on Saturday in Lafia, describing the arrest as a major step forward in ongoing efforts to tackle crime across the state.
According to him, operatives of the Police Mobile Force (PMF) 38 Akwanga Unit acted on a report received on Friday, March 20, at about 5:00 p.m., which led to the apprehension of the suspect.
“Acting swiftly on the information, a team of Mobile Police operatives was immediately deployed to the scene,,the Adudu and they successfully apprehended the 32-year-old male suspect.
“The suspect is from Rugan Hassan in Adudu Community of the Awe Local Government Area of the state.
“Upon arrest, a search conducted on the suspect led to the recovery of one AK-49 rifle along with four rounds of live 7.56 mm ammunition,” he said.
Nansel noted that the suspect and the recovered exhibits have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for discreet investigation.
He said that the police would continue the investigation to apprehend other members of the criminal network.
The PPRO, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Shetima Jauro-Mohammed, reiterated the Command’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all residents.
He urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to support ongoing operations in combating the state of criminal elements. (NAN)
