Tears, Tension as Tinubu meets victims of Plateau killings in Jos

Published

on

Grief and anger filled the air in Jos, Plateau State, as families who lost loved ones in the recent Palm Sunday attacks met with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during his visit on Thursday.

Among those who came face-to-face with the President was Favour Rhoda, the woman seen in a viral video clutching her dying son — a heartbreaking image that has come to symbolise the human cost of the violence.

President Tinubu offered condolences to her and other bereaved families, assuring them that steps would be taken to prevent a recurrence of such tragedies.

The atmosphere at the Yakubu Gowon Airport was marked by a mix of sorrow and expectation, as victims’ families gathered alongside government officials and traditional rulers to receive the President.

Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, acknowledged recent security setbacks but expressed optimism that progress is being made in tackling the challenges. He also commended security agencies for their efforts in maintaining stability across the state.

In a bid to strengthen collaboration, the President approved a request by the Gbong Gwom Jos, Da Jacob Buba, for Plateau traditional rulers to visit the State House for further engagement on security and peacebuilding.

The Federal Government also announced plans to install CCTV cameras at strategic locations across the state as part of efforts to enhance surveillance and curb insecurity.

The visit underscores growing concern over the security situation in Plateau, as residents continue to demand justice and lasting solutions to the cycle of violence.
