Tension as gunmen kidnap former Ebonyi Deputy Governor’s father en-route to church
Tension has gripped Ndufu-Alike community in Ebonyi State following the abduction of Francis Igwe, father of former Deputy Governor of Ebonyi State, Dr. Kelechi Igwe.
Sources in the area said the elderly man was kidnapped on Sunday morning while driving to church.
According to eyewitness accounts, armed men riding on a motorcycle reportedly intercepted his vehicle, forced him out, and whisked him away to an unknown destination.
The incident has raised fresh concerns about security in the state, as residents expressed shock over the bold attack carried out in broad daylight.
Confirming the development, the Chairman of Ikwo Local Government Area, Sunday Nwankwo, said local authorities are working closely with security agencies to gather useful information and ensure the safe rescue of the victim.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Joshua Ukandu, also confirmed the incident, adding that policemen are on the ground tracking the kidnappers to ensure the safe recovery of the elderly man.
