Tinubu declares Nigeria out of economic, security ‘tunnel of uncertainty’

President Bola Tinubu has assured Nigerians that the country has surmounted its toughest economic and security challenges, pledging that better days lie ahead as his administration advances reforms.

Speaking at an interfaith Ramadan breaking of fast with governors from across party lines at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Monday night, Tinubu described the nation’s recent period as a “dark tunnel of uncertainty” now behind it.

“We are out of the woods; we are out of the dark tunnel of uncertainty,” he said, urging sustained cooperation among leaders to consolidate gains.

State Police Commitment

Addressing insecurity, the President reiterated his pledge to establish state police to tackle crimes at the grassroots level.

“To those unemployed, what I promise is that we will establish state police to combat insecurity in our local governments,” he said, highlighting the need for resilience and collaboration between federal and state governments.

Responding to concerns raised by Niger State Governor Mohammed Bago, Tinubu emphasised that progress comes with responsibilities: “The result of hard work is more work. But as long as we bridge together and move together and determine to rescue this country, the best is yet to come to Nigeria.”

Call for Unity and Sacrifice

The President also urged Nigerians to embrace unity during the rare overlap of Ramadan and the Christian Lenten season, commending Babagana Zulum for his Ramadan feeding programme.

He stressed discipline, faith, perseverance, and empowerment of young people as key to fostering national development at the grassroots.

“You know what it means, discipline, sacrifice, faith, perseverance and strong determination for us to continue to bridge together, pray together and love one another,” Tinubu added.

Governors Laud Leadership

Hope Uzodinma, representing the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, described the interfaith event as a symbol of national unity and praised Tinubu’s inclusive leadership style.

He highlighted the significance of the rare convergence of Ramadan and Lent in promoting peaceful coexistence.

Other governors present included Alex Otti, Dapo Abiodun, Monday Okpebholo, Usman Ododo, Inuwa Yahaya, and others. Vice President Kashim Shettima, Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, ministers, and senior officials also attended.

This marks the third consecutive year President Tinubu has hosted an interfaith fast-breaking gathering with political leaders, featuring prayers led by both Muslim and Christian clerics.
