President Bola Tinubu hosted state governors at a Ramadan Iftar dinner at the State House in Abuja on Monday evening, continuing an annual tradition for the third year.

The gathering brought together governors, deputy governors, and senior government officials to break their fast together.

Our correspondent noted that governors arriving before 7:00 p.m. included Hope Uzodinma of Imo, Dapo Abiodun of Ogun, Monday Okpebholo of Edo, Usman Ododo of Kogi, Babagana Zulum of Borno, Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe, Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto, Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta, Mohammed Bago of Niger, Umar Namadi of Jigawa, Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa, Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano, and Agbu Kefas of Taraba.

The Deputy Governor of Bauchi State is also attending the dinner.

Vice President Kashim Shettima, Chief of Staff to the President Femi Gbajabiamila, and several cabinet members are also present at the gathering.

The Iftar dinner forms part of the President’s annual Ramadan tradition of hosting political and government officials to break the fast during the holy month.

In previous years, President Tinubu has used the occasion to call for unity among political leaders and emphasise the importance of selfless leadership.

At the 2025 Iftar, the President urged governors and ministers to focus on improving the lives of citizens, saying, “Do more for your people.”

He also emphasised that Nigeria should be seen as “one big family living under the same roof,” regardless of religious or ethnic differences.

In 2024, Tinubu appealed to state governors to set aside political differences and focus on governance, declaring that “the time for politics is over. It is now time for governance.”

President Tinubu is expected to host more Iftar gatherings with senior government officials, traditional rulers, and members of the diplomatic corps during the holy month.

In past Ramadan fasts, former President Muhammadu Buhari also hosted the leadership of the National Assembly, the Judiciary, party leaders, and other stakeholders.
