Tinubu lands UK for historic state visit
President Bola Tinubu has arrived in the United Kingdom for a two-day state visit at the invitation of King Charles III.
Images shown on Nigerian television on Tuesday captured the president’s arrival, marking what is being described as the first visit of its kind by a Nigerian leader in nearly 40 years.
As part of the visit, the British monarch is expected to host Tinubu at a state banquet inside Windsor Castle, one of the most historic royal residences located west of London.
Nigeria, a member of the Commonwealth of Nations, maintains longstanding diplomatic and cultural ties with the United Kingdom, which is also home to a large Nigerian community.
Tinubu touched down at London Stansted Airport shortly before 4:00 pm UK time (1600 GMT).
His trip comes a day after Nigeria’s northeastern city of Maiduguri was hit by coordinated blasts by suspected suicide bombers, killing 23 and wounding more than 100 others.
