Tinubu’s nominee Bernard Doro confirmed as Minister by Senate

The Senate has confirmed Bernard Doro as a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria after a brief screening session that lasted less than 30 minutes.

Doro, who becomes the third ministerial nominee from Plateau State, used the opportunity to outline his plans for building an inclusive humanitarian ecosystem across the country.

He pledged to promote a system guided by impartiality and independence while ensuring that humanitarian interventions reach those who truly need them.

During his appearance before the Senate, Doro emphasized the need for stronger collaboration between security agencies to effectively identify and support victims of crises, noting that this has often been a challenge.

He also highlighted the importance of leveraging technology to improve humanitarian response and coordination nationwide.

After a short round of questions, senators expressed confidence in his competence and qualifications before asking him to take a bow and leave.

President Bola Tinubu appointed Doro as a minister last week following the resignation of Nentawe Yilwatda, also from Plateau State, who previously served as Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction.

Yilwatda resigned after being appointed the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Born on March 23, 1969, in Kwall, Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State, Doro brings over 20 years of professional experience to his new role.

He holds degrees in Pharmacy and Law, as well as an MBA with a focus on IT-driven business strategy.

He is an Independent Prescriber and Advanced Clinical Practitioner with extensive frontline experience in the United Kingdom’s National Health Service (NHS), covering urgent care, walk-in centres, general practice, and hospital settings.

Beyond his medical career, Doro has also been active in youth mentorship and social impact initiatives, both within the Nigerian diaspora and local communities.
