Troops foil armed robbery attack on Abuja–Kaduna highway, nab suspects
Troops of the 1 Division of the Nigerian Army, under Sector 1 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have foiled an armed robbery along the Abuja–Kaduna Highway after responding to a distress call during a routine patrol.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, Shuaib Umar, said the troops received information about an ongoing robbery at Nasarawan Doka and immediately moved to the area.
According to Umar, the soldiers engaged the suspected robbers on arrival and successfully neutralised the threat, preventing the criminals from carrying out their attack.
The statement added, “During the encounter, one of the arrested suspects, Kabiru Zayyanu, who sustained a gunshot wound to the leg, was promptly evacuated to Doka General Hospital, where he received first aid. Other members of the criminal gang fled the scene.”
Troops conducted a hot pursuit, but no further contact was made. No casualty or abduction was recorded during the operation, the statement said.
“The arrested suspect will be handed over to the relevant security agency upon completion of the investigation,” Umar added.
On the general security situation, he said, “Troops continue to maintain a strong presence, dominate the area, and ensure a secure environment.”
The Nigerian Army reassured the public of its commitment to safety and urged citizens to remain vigilant.
“The Nigerian Army remains committed to safeguarding lives and property and urges members of the public to report suspicious activities to security agencies,” the statement concluded.
