Two Nigerians nabbed in India over alleged drug trafficking
Police in India have arrested two Nigerians over their alleged involvement in drug trafficking following a targeted operation in the country’s capital.
According to The Times of India on Friday, the suspects were apprehended in South Delhi’s Maidan Garhi area.
Authorities disclosed that the arrests followed “specific intelligence” received on April 27, which suggested that two individuals were expected to arrive in the area to deliver narcotics.
Acting on the information, police operatives set up an ambush and intercepted the suspects at about 10:30 p.m. while they were riding a scooter.
According to the police, “During the search, police recovered 102 grams of cocaine, classified as a commercial quantity, along with 13 grams of MDMA and 85 grams of methaqualone, which falls under the intermediate quantity category.”
The suspects were identified as “26-year-old Chijioke Wisdom, said to be a resident of Lagos, and 43-year-old Chiqozie from Owerri in Imo State.”
Police said both men were residing in India without valid visas and added that “a case under relevant sections of the NDPS Act has been registered,” while investigations are ongoing to trace the supply network and possible accomplices.
