UCL: Atalanta defeat Dortmund 4-1 to reach last 16
Atalanta staged a stunning comeback on Wednesday, overturning a two-goal first-leg deficit to defeat Borussia Dortmund 4-1 and secure a spot in the Champions League last 16 with a 4-3 aggregate win.
Dortmund had taken a 2-0 lead in last week’s first leg, but Atalanta responded fiercely in Bergamo, leveling the tie by halftime.
Mario Pasalic then put the Italian side ahead, before Lazar Samardzic converted a stoppage-time penalty to complete the remarkable turnaround.
Karim Adeyemi brought Dortmund even and it looked destined for extra time before Samardzic struck from the spot with the final kick of the match after Ramy Bensebaini was sent off for a dangerous challenge on Nikola Krstovic.
