UCL: PSG hold off Man City fightback to secure 4-2 victory at Etihad
PSG doubled their lead two minutes later when Dembélé headed home after Doué returned the ball across the area following a cross from the French forward.
Paris Saint-Germain secured an impressive 4-2 victory over Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday, overcoming a second-half fightback led by Erling Haaland to claim all three points at the Etihad Stadium.
According to The Guardian’s live report, the French champions took control of the encounter in the first half, scoring three goals through Désiré Doué, Ousmane Dembélé and Vitinha to put the hosts under significant pressure.
Manchester City responded after the break, with Haaland finding the net twice to revive the home side’s hopes of mounting a comeback.
However, Maghnes Akliouche restored PSG’s two-goal advantage, strengthening the visitors’ position as they sought to see out the contest.
PSG subsequently withstood a late penalty scare to preserve their lead and secure a valuable victory away from home, dealing Manchester City a setback in their Champions League campaign.
Doué opened the scoring in the 13th minute, cutting inside from the right and beating City goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma with a low shot.
PSG doubled their lead two minutes later when Dembélé headed home after Doué returned the ball across the area following a cross from the French forward.
Vitinha made it 3-0 in the 32nd minute, putting PSG in control before half-time.
City responded after the interval, with Haaland reducing the deficit in the 53rd minute.
The Norwegian striker scored again in the 75th minute to give the hosts hope of completing a comeback.
However, Akliouche scored PSG’s fourth in the 62nd minute, restoring their three-goal advantage and leaving City with too much to do despite Haaland’s brace.
The closing stages produced another major moment when PSG were awarded a penalty after Matheus Nunes made contact with Nuno Mendes in the box.
Former Manchester City forward Ferran Torres stepped up to take the spot-kick in the 90th minute, but Donnarumma saved his effort to prevent PSG from extending their lead.
The Guardian reported that Torres’ attempt was directed towards the bottom-right corner, allowing Donnarumma to make the save.
The result handed PSG a 4-2 victory in an encounter that featured six goals and a late penalty save.
For City, Haaland’s two goals were not enough to prevent defeat, while Donnarumma’s save ensured that the hosts were denied a chance to narrow the margin further.
