The Federal Capital Territory Administration has announced plans to complete and inaugurate 10 major road and infrastructure projects across Abuja before the next general elections.

The FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, disclosed this on Wednesday during an inspection of the ongoing Tungan Madaki-Zuba Road and Nile University-RR3 Road projects in the capital.

Wike expressed confidence that the contractors handling the projects would complete the work within the agreed timelines.

He said the administration was focused on delivering key infrastructure projects across the FCT to improve transportation and enhance the quality of life for residents.

“We are also visiting some other two projects tomorrow(today), believing that by the end of the year, we would have had up to 10 projects, as promised, lined up for inauguration before the general election,” he said.

Wike said the inspection was part of efforts to assess the progress of projects initiated during the administration’s third anniversary and determine the readiness of contractors to meet their delivery commitments.

At the Tungan Madaki-Zuba Road project, the minister said five of the six box culverts had been completed, describing the pace of work as commendable.

Wike also restated the FCT Administration’s renewed enforcement against structures obstructing waterways, saying the exercise would be extended to other parts of the capital.

Wike said the demolition, which commenced in Maitama on Tuesday, was aimed at removing structures blocking waterways and restoring the free flow of stormwater.

“We’ve just started somewhere. After that, we will move to another area. We are not going to end just with what we started yesterday,” he stated.

Wike also revealed that the FCT Administration’s Director of Development Control was being queried over approvals to car dealers to operate on designated green areas.

The minister ordered the immediate removal of car lots on such spaces, insisting that areas meant for recreation and environmental purposes must be protected.

He said; “This(yesterday) morning, the Director of Development Control was queried for approving car dealers to use green areas.

“I’ve already stopped it, and I’ve set up a task force to make sure that every car dealer is moved out of the green areas.

“If you want to sell your car, you go and purchase somewhere, or rent somewhere, and then develop it.”
