Yahaya Bello endorses Rep Leke Abejide for third term amid rift with Mark-led ADC
Former Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, has called on voters in Yagba Federal Constituency to re-elect their representative, Leke Abejide, for a third term in the House of Representatives.
The endorsement was contained in a statement issued in Abuja by Bello’s spokesperson, Onogwu Muhammed, where the former governor stressed the importance of continuity and legislative experience in driving development.
Bello argued that lawmakers become more effective with time, noting that seniority and accumulated political influence often determine how well a legislator can secure projects, lead committees, and navigate parliamentary processes.
According to him, “the impact of a third-term legislator far outweighs that of a first-term member,” adding that experience in the National Assembly translates into stronger representation for constituents.
He also disclosed what he described as a joint backing for Abejide’s ambition by key stakeholders in the state, while urging the lawmaker to consider aligning with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
“The Governor and I are aligned… We want him to join our party, the APC, and return to the House of Representatives for a third term,” Bello said.
Addressing calls for political rotation within the constituency, particularly from Mopa-Muro axis, Bello appealed for patience, arguing that development gains should take precedence over zoning considerations.
He maintained that continuity in office would ensure ongoing projects are completed while positioning the constituency for additional federal opportunities.
Describing Abejide as a “leader of integrity and reliability,” Bello said his performance in the National Assembly has positively impacted constituents and justified another term in office.
