The Zamfara State Government on Wednesday sponsored a mass wedding for 100 couples drawn from vulnerable groups across the state’s 14 local government areas, in a move aimed at improving social welfare and supporting family stability.

Governor Dauda Lawal said the initiative reflects his administration’s commitment to uplifting the less privileged and promoting inclusive social interventions.

Represented by Deputy Governor Mani Mummune, the governor stated, “We remain dedicated to uplifting the less privileged and ensuring their well-being through meaningful interventions.”

Mummune, who stood in for the grooms during the ceremony, announced that the state government paid a dowry of ₦200,000 for each bride. He added that every bride would also receive ₦50,000 to support small-scale businesses in their new homes.

The Emir of Kaura Namoda, Sanusi Muhammad Asha, represented the brides, formally giving them out in marriage to their spouses.

At the event, the governor presented marriage certificates and household items to the couples, while urging them to build their unions on mutual respect and understanding.

“Respect one another and build peaceful homes to attract Allah’s blessings,” he advised.

In addition, senior government officials jointly donated ₦5 million to support the newlyweds as they begin their marital journey.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the Zamfara State Hisbah Commission, Sheikh Umar Hassan, commended the government for constructing permanent offices for the commission across all local government areas, noting that the development would enhance its operational efficiency and service delivery across the state.
