Zamfara Politics: Marafa dumps ADC, defects to NDC

Former Zamfara Central senator, Kabir Marafa, has defected from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), citing concerns over inclusion, equity, and internal democracy.

Marafa announced his defection on Tuesday in Abuja during his formal reception at the residence of Seriake Dickson, who welcomed him into the party and described his entry as a boost to the NDC’s strength in the North-West.

The former lawmaker said his decision followed careful reflection on political developments, particularly issues around party leadership structure and internal processes. He stressed that political participation must be rooted in fairness and opportunity, warning that lack of recognition and imbalance in appointments could weaken trust within parties.

Marafa, who recalled his role in the emergence of the APC in Zamfara during the 2015 elections, expressed dissatisfaction over what he described as inadequate recognition of contributions made by key stakeholders. He maintained that his move was not driven by personal ambition but by the need to align with a platform that reflects his principles.

Dickson, in his remarks, said Marafa is expected to play a key role in grassroots mobilisation, party expansion, and strengthening internal party processes, particularly as political realignments intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
