2027: Madaki resigns from NDC, says party can’t actualise his good governance agenda

Former governorship aspirant of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Kaduna State, Zariyi Yusuf Madaki, has resigned his membership of the party, saying the platform can no longer provide the avenue to actualise his vision for good governance and a better Nigeria.

Madaki announced his resignation in a statement issued on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, after formally notifying the party leadership of his decision.

In a resignation letter addressed to the NDC National Chairman through the Kaduna State Chairman, Evangelist Mordecai Ibrahim, Madaki said his resignation takes immediate effect.

“I write to inform you of my decision to resign the membership of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), effective immediately,” he stated.

He also asked the party to remove his name and other personal details from its records and platforms.

Explaining his decision, Madaki said his entry into politics was motivated by his longstanding advocacy for justice, accountability and good governance.

“Having been an advocate for justice and good governance over the years, I took a decision to step into politics. This decision was conceived as a moral duty in pursuit of all I have ever stood for and still stand for,” he said.

The former governorship aspirant said he initially chose the NDC after considering several political options, believing the party would provide the platform to pursue his vision for better governance.

However, he said his experiences, consultations and engagements within the party, particularly during his governorship bid and the controversies surrounding its primaries, eventually influenced his decision to leave.

Madaki also recalled that he stepped aside from the governorship race in favour of Senator Danjuma La’ah, saying he took the decision in the interest of Southern Kaduna and the state.

“Through my experiences, consultations and engagements as a governorship aspirant under the NDC in Kaduna, the controversies surrounding the party’s primaries, to the moment I sacrificed my ambition in favour of Senator Danjuma La’ah for the interest of the people of Southern Kaduna and the state in general, I have now arrived at a critical moment of decision to resign my membership of the party,” he said.

According to Madaki, his assessment of the party and consultations with stakeholders convinced him that the NDC could no longer serve as the vehicle for achieving his political objectives.

“In my consultations, experiences in the NDC and critical judgement, my pursuit for good governance and a better Nigeria cannot be actualized on the NDC platform,” he said.

He stressed that his resignation was based on his commitment to the principles he has consistently advocated rather than political calculations.

“The decision is informed strictly in the interests of all that I represent, all that I have stood for and still stand for – justice and good governance,” Madaki added.

Madaki said he was currently consulting with various stakeholders on his next political move and would make his decision known in due course.

He maintained that whatever direction he chooses would be guided by what he described as his moral obligation and commitment to the interests of his people and Nigeria.
