2027: Release El-rufai if you are not scared of him – ADC chieftain challenges Tinubu, APC Elders
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) are afraid of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai because of his political influence, an African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain and retired broadcaster, Mohammed Barde, has alleged.
Barde made the claim during an interview with Trust TV on Friday, where he argued that the legal challenges facing El-Rufai were politically motivated rather than the result of a purely judicial process.
According to him, El-Rufai has become a major political threat to the ruling party and the Presidency, prompting efforts to keep him tied down with legal battles.
“The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Tinubu, is scared of Nasir, very, very scared of him. People in government are scared of Nasir. He has become an enigma to the APC and the Presidency; they don’t want him to be free, and that’s why they are keeping him there,” Barde said.
He argued that while other former governors accused of more serious offences remain free, El-Rufai is being prosecuted, which, according to him, points to political persecution.
Responding to a question on why other opposition figures, including Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, had not faced similar legal action, Barde maintained that El-Rufai’s case was different because of his political relevance.
“I believe Nasir is in this situation because the President and all the people in the APC are scared of him,” he added.
Barde also claimed that El-Rufai played a key role in the political rise of President Tinubu and several other national figures, arguing that his contributions have not received due recognition.
