2027: Wike mocks Atiku-Amaechi ticket, calls it ‘joint ticket of corruption’
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has criticised the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential ticket of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, describing the pairing as a “joint ticket of corruption.”
Wike made the statement on Monday during a town hall interactive meeting with the Rumueme and Apara kingdoms in the Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The FCT minister also dismissed the chances of the ADC presidential ticket securing the required 25 per cent of votes in Rivers State under the Constitution.
Wike further referred to comments previously made by former President Olusegun Obasanjo about Atiku, using the former president’s position to reinforce his criticism of the ADC presidential candidate.
The remarks come amid growing political activities and realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to him, Atiku cannot lay claim to moral integrity, having a monumental corruption baggage that was laid bare by his former boss.
Speaking on Atiku’s running mate, Amaechi, Wike said his inclusion only worsened an already morally bankrupt ticket.
“When I saw Atiku on television yesterday, asking Nigerians to take any money given to them by people from the party in power, saying that it will be stolen money, I said, ‘Haa, Atiku is now an apostle of anti-corruption? ADC’s Atiku-Amaechi ticket is a joint ticket of corruption.
“The same Atiku whose boss described him as corrupt and said one of his major regrets was making him vice president is talking,” Wike said.
