Doctors to embark on indefinite nationwide strike April 7
The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has said its members will begin an indefinite nationwide strike from 12am on Tuesday, April 7, 2026.
The decision comes after the Federal Government stopped the implementation of the revised Professional Allowance Table, which was part of an agreement reached with the doctors following their industrial action in 2025.
“The National Executive Council was informed about the Federal Government’s decision to remove the Professional Allowance Table, a development deemed unfortunate,” said NARD National President, Shuaibu Ibrahim.
The resolution to commence the strike was reached during the association’s virtual extraordinary National Executive Council meeting held on Saturday.
The planned industrial action is expected to significantly disrupt healthcare services across public hospitals nationwide, raising concerns among patients and stakeholders.
