Hardship: Lets thank God you are better off than Kenya, other African countries – Tinubu tells Nigerians

President Bola Tinubu has acknowledged the rising hardship caused by fuel price increases across the country, urging Nigerians to remain hopeful despite current economic pressures.

The President made the remarks on Friday during his visit to Bayelsa State, where he inaugurated several projects.

Addressing concerns over the cost of living, Tinubu said Nigerians were facing difficult times but should remain grateful.

“I hear you from various angles of the economy. The fuel price is biting hard, but look around, let’s just thank God together that you are better off,” he said.

He compared Nigeria’s situation with other African countries, noting that economic challenges are not unique to the nation.

“Listen to them in Kenya, in other African countries, what they are going through. We will not look back. We will continue to find ways to ameliorate the suffering of the vulnerable. This is a government that cares,” he added.

The President said his administration was working to ease the burden on citizens and attributed the economic strain to global developments beyond Nigeria’s control.

Tinubu also referenced ongoing economic data reviews with top government officials to identify measures that could reduce hardship.

Since assuming office in May 2023, the Tinubu administration has introduced key reforms, including the removal of petrol subsidy and the unification of the foreign exchange system, policies aimed at long-term economic stability.

However, these reforms have triggered inflationary pressures and a sharp rise in the cost of living, with petrol prices now exceeding ₦1,200 per litre in many parts of the country.

Global energy market disruptions linked to geopolitical tensions have also contributed to rising fuel costs worldwide.
