Ex-Presidential aspirant Mohammed Hayatu-Deen joins ADC, cites hardship, insecurity
Former presidential aspirant Mohammed Hayatu-Deen has joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing worsening economic hardship, insecurity, and concerns over Nigeria’s democratic space.
In a statement released on Sunday through his media office, Hayatu-Deen said his decision was motivated by growing worries over the rising cost of living and what he described as the failure to address the country’s fundamental challenges.
“Like many Nigerians, I want a safer and more prosperous future, but the nation faces fundamental problems that are being ignored,” he said.
He added that the hopes and expectations of many citizens have remained unfulfilled in recent years.
“Every day I hear from people across the country that they want a government focused on fixing problems, reducing the cost of living, and creating jobs,” he stated.
Hayatu-Deen also expressed concern over the state of democracy in the country, warning that institutions are under pressure while the space for credible opposition is narrowing.
“I am deeply concerned about the increasing shrinkage of our democratic space. Voices are being stifled, institutions are under strain, and the space for credible opposition and real choice is being systematically closed,” he said.
According to him, democracy should provide Nigerians with genuine alternatives and meaningful choices.
The former aspirant said he believes the ADC presents a credible platform for national renewal, describing his move as more than a political switch.
He pledged to work actively for the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“From this day onwards until the 2027 elections, I will campaign relentlessly as a party member, to help the ADC win the elections and deliver the better future Nigeria desperately deserves,” he declared.
His defection adds to a growing list of political figures aligning with the ADC as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.
