‘Kaduna is now a one-party state’ — Gov Uba Sani says no opposition

Governor Uba Sani has declared that All Progressives Congress (APC) now dominates Kaduna State to the extent that there is effectively no opposition left in the state.

The governor made the assertion on Thursday while hosting a delegation from the presidency led by Bayo Onanuga during an inspection tour of development projects in the North-West.

According to him, the political landscape in Kaduna has shifted decisively in favour of the ruling party.

“We have no opposition. That’s the fact of the matter. We have brought Kaduna into a one-party state and I have no apology for that,” Sani stated.

He criticised some journalists for what he described as preconceived criticism of his administration, accusing them of forming opinions before engaging with issues.

The governor also used the opportunity to commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, insisting that no previous leader has delivered as much support to northern Nigeria within a short period.

Sani pointed to improvements in security and infrastructure, citing easier access to previously troubled areas like Birnin Gwari, which he said no longer requires heavy security escorts.

He further argued that ongoing projects and federal support have boosted economic activities, particularly for farmers and small business owners across the state.

Dismissing doubts about Tinubu’s 2027 re-election chances, the governor maintained that real electoral strength lies with grassroots voters, not social media narratives.

“If elections are conducted at polling units, he is going to get 70 percent of the votes,” he said.

Responding, Onanuga noted that the presidential tour was aimed at assessing how states are utilising funds from subsidy removal, adding that Kaduna stands out as a model in deploying resources toward impactful development projects.
