BREAKING: El-rufai’s son Bello, two Reps dump APC, join ADC
Bello El-Rufai, son of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, has defected from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Bello El-Rufai, who represents Kaduna North Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, formally dumped the APC during plenary on Thursday.
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, announced the defection while reading correspondence from the affected lawmakers on the floor of the chamber.
According to the Speaker, Bello El-Rufai joined the ADC alongside two lawmakers from Kaduna State elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) — Umar Ajilo and Suleiman Richifa.
The House also recorded fresh defections involving other opposition parties.
Speaker Abbas announced that Kamilu Ado, a lawmaker from Kano State, defected from the ADC to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
He also disclosed that Joshua Obika, representing the AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), left the APC for the NDC.
The lawmakers reportedly cited internal crises, uncertainty, and unresolved leadership disputes within their former parties as reasons for their decisions.
Bello El-Rufai’s defection comes amid growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, with several lawmakers and political figures changing parties in recent weeks.
The development is expected to further fuel speculations surrounding the political direction of the El-Rufai family following recent tensions within the APC.
