The Nigerian Army has confirmed that troops of the 25 Task Force Brigade came under a heavy ambush by terrorists in Borno State while returning from a successful mission in the Sambisa forest.

In a statement issued by Appolonia Anele, Acting Director of Army Public Relations, the army said the attack occurred during a routine patrol around Wajiroko in Azir Multe, Damboa Local Government Area.

Anele disclosed that two soldiers and two members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) lost their lives in the encounter.

According to her, the patrol team, led by the Commander of the 25 Task Force Brigade, Brigadier General M. Uba, fought through the ambush with “superior firepower,” forcing the terrorists to retreat and abandon their mission.

She dismissed reports circulating online claiming that the Brigade Commander was abducted during the attack, describing them as fake and urging the public to disregard such narratives.

The statement added that the Army High Command commiserates with the families of the fallen soldiers and CJTF members, honouring them for their sacrifice to the nation.

Anele also quoted the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, who praised the troops’ bravery and resilience despite operating in one of the most dangerous conflict zones in the country.

Sources told Very Nigerian that the bodies of the deceased CJTF members were transported to Maiduguri for burial.
