Police appoints CSP Iniedu Okokon as new Force Public Relations Officer
The Nigeria Police Force has announced a change in its public relations leadership, appointing Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Iniedu Okokon as the new Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO).
Okokon replaces Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Anthony Placid, who was appointed to the role about three months ago shortly after Olatunji Disu assumed office as the 23rd Inspector General of Police (IGP).
DCP Placid confirmed his replacement in a brief text message response when contacted, though the circumstances surrounding the latest reshuffle have not been officially explained by the police authorities.
Sources at Force Headquarters indicated that Placid has been redeployed to head the Lagos State Command’s Finance and Administration Unit.
The position reportedly became vacant following the death of the previous holder, DCP Khan Salihu, who died after a brief illness.
Under the new arrangement, CSP Okokon is expected to assume duties immediately as the Force spokesperson, taking charge of public communication for the Nigeria Police Force. The newly created Force New Media Unit will continue to operate under the supervision of CSP Aliyu Giwa.
Okokon previously served as head of the Complaint Response Unit (CRU), according to senior police sources.
Further official clarification is expected from the police authorities regarding the restructuring.
