VP Shettima visits NIPSS after deadly gunmen attack, orders security review
Vice President Kashim Shettima on Friday visited the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies) for an on-the-spot assessment of the institution’s facilities, operations, and ongoing programmes following a recent attack by gunmen.
He was accompanied by Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang and other senior government officials during the visit.
The Vice President was received by the Director-General of the institute, Ayo Omotayo, alongside members of the management team.
The visit comes days after armed men attacked the institution, killing three persons and raising fresh concerns over security at one of Nigeria’s top policy and strategic training centres.
Officials say the assessment is part of efforts to strengthen safety measures and ensure the institute continues its national strategic roles without disruption.
Security agencies have since arrested some suspects in connection with the attack, while security measures have been strengthened within and around the institution to prevent a recurrence.
Shettima’s visit is seen as part of the Federal Government’s efforts to assess the situation firsthand, reassure stakeholders and support measures aimed at enhancing security at the institute.
Authorities have continued investigations into the attack as efforts intensify to bring all those responsible to justice.
