‘Atiku is the greatest threat to Tinubu, without him on the ballot, Tinubu will defeat Obi by over 7 Million votes’ — Deji Adeyanju
Human rights activist and political commentator Deji Adeyanju has described former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar as the biggest threat to President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid, following the Federal High Court judgment that nullified the leadership of the Senator David Mark-led African Democratic Congress (ADC).
In a series of posts on X, Adeyanju argued that Tinubu could defeat the Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso ticket by more than seven million votes if Atiku is not on the ballot in the 2027 presidential election.
He also predicted that Tinubu would still defeat Obi even if Atiku campaigns for the NDC presidential candidate, describing the contest as a “walk over” in the absence of the former vice-president.
“Atiku is the greatest threat to Tinubu’s re-election. Everyone that understands Nigeria political history knows this,” Adeyanju wrote.
He further argued that political dynamics and sentiments in northern Nigeria could pose a challenge for the ruling party.
Adeyanju also criticised Obi, describing him as a “religious bigot” and alleging that the former Anambra governor framed the 2023 election as a religious contest through the “Yes Daddy” audio and church-based campaign activities.
The activist named Donald Duke, Seyi Makinde and Omoyele Sowore as alternatives he considered preferable to Obi, arguing that they were not religious bigots.
Adeyanju has repeatedly criticised Obi in his public commentary. His latest remarks followed the court’s decision to nullify the Mark-led ADC leadership, a ruling that has thrown the party’s leadership structure and Atiku’s presidential candidacy into uncertainty.
The ADC has said it will appeal the judgment. The political implications of the ruling and its impact on the opposition’s preparations for the 2027 election remain uncertain.
Adeyanju’s claims about vote margins and the likely outcome of the election are his political projections and have not been established.
