BREAKING: We are being tracked, our phones have been compromised — El-Rufai’s wife raises alarm

Hajiya Asia El-Rufai, one of the wives of former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, has raised concerns over the safety of her family, alleging that she and Aishatou El-Rufai are being monitored and tracked.

Asia made the allegation in a post shared on her Facebook page, where she claimed that their communication lines had been compromised and warned that authorities should be held responsible if anything happens to them.

“They are following me and Aisattou, let the world know that if anything happens to us the Government should explain. Our phones are bugged… our lives are in danger!” she wrote.

Her comments come amid the ongoing legal challenges facing the former governor, who has remained at the centre of a high-profile investigation and court proceedings since February 2026.

Nasir El-Rufai, a prominent figure in the opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC), was reportedly intercepted by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, upon his return from Egypt on February 12, 2026. On the same day, he was invited for questioning by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

Following the incident, El-Rufai alleged in a television interview that the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, was behind the move against him.

The situation later escalated when the former governor appeared before the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over allegations of financial misconduct during his tenure as governor. He was subsequently transferred to the ICPC for further investigation.

In April 2026, the ICPC arraigned El-Rufai before a Kaduna State High Court on charges including alleged money laundering, procurement violations and advance fee fraud.

Although a Federal High Court later granted him bail under strict conditions, separate proceedings at the Kaduna State High Court reportedly resulted in a denial of bail, citing concerns over his political influence.

The case has since experienced several procedural delays, with further proceedings scheduled for June 24, 2026.
