Nigerian national deported from US over criminal convictions, domestic violence
The United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has deported a Nigerian national, Ayodeji Ajayi, following multiple criminal convictions, including domestic violence offences.
According to the immigration agency, the deportation forms part of its ongoing efforts to enforce U.S. immigration laws and remove non-citizens found to have violated the conditions of their stay or committed criminal offences.
ICE said Ajayi entered the United States in 2007 on a student visa but failed to comply with the terms of his admission after leaving school. Authorities noted that he remained in the country unlawfully after his student status ended.
The agency stated that, in addition to immigration violations, Ajayi had been convicted of domestic violence-related offences and other crimes, factors that contributed to the decision to remove him from the United States.
According to the agency, Ajayi later built up a criminal record that included convictions for domestic violence, trespassing, intimidation and obstruction.
It also stated that his criminal history contained allegations and charges related to kidnapping, rape and family neglect.
The agency announced the deportation in a statement shared on its official X account, describing the action as part of the administration’s efforts to remove undocumented immigrants with criminal records from the country.
The deportation came as US authorities continue to intensify enforcement measures targeting non-citizens with criminal histories.
