Stephen Eustaquio scored a dramatic stoppage-time winner as co-hosts Canada defeated South Africa 1-0 to qualify for the FIFA World Cup round of 16 for the first time in their history.

The decisive moment came in the second minute of added time when Eustaquio fired a superb low shot from the edge of the penalty area, breaking the deadlock in a tense and scrappy contest that had produced few clear-cut chances.

The victory sends Canada into the knockout stage, while South Africa exit the tournament after a spirited defensive display that was undone only in the closing moments.
