I may die before 2027 – Peter Obi

The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2027 election, Peter Obi, has expressed fears over his safety, saying he might not be alive to contest the next presidential election.

Obi made the remarks during an interview on With Chude, hosted by media personality Chude Jideonwo and shared on X on Wednesday.

Responding to a question on whether he would be on the ballot in 2027, the former Anambra State governor said his immediate concern was not even his candidacy but his survival.

> “Not even a candidate. I might not even be alive. I’m telling you. Every single thing I do for a living, this government is frustrating it. Deliberately so. Everything. So, there is even a possibility, if they have the opportunity, I will not be alive,” Obi said.

Although he did not make a direct accusation against any individual or institution, Obi alleged that he faces deliberate obstacles in his daily activities and business interests.

According to him, those responsible avoid direct confrontation but create persistent difficulties that he believes are intended to frustrate him.

The former governor also claimed that opposition figures across the country were being targeted.

> “They are attacking everybody who is in opposition personally,” he stated, adding that he has been denied benefits and entitlements due to him.

To illustrate his claims, Obi recounted an incident at an airport where he alleged that officials locked his vehicle while leaving other parked vehicles untouched.

According to him, when he identified himself, the officer in charge dismissed his complaint despite his pointing out that other vehicles had not been similarly treated.

> “But I said, ‘Look at the cars of other people.’ And you could see them talking to each other, as if, ‘Who is this one?’” he recalled.

Obi further alleged that some of his supporters and acquaintances now avoid being publicly associated with him for fear of possible repercussions.

He said some people have even requested that he stay away from family events to avoid attracting unwanted attention.

“I have people send me invitations and say, ‘My son, my daughter is wedding, but please don’t come,’” he said.

The former Labour Party presidential candidate maintained that the challenges he faces extend beyond politics and affect his personal and professional life. His comments come amid increasing political activities and alignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
