Tambuwal’s ally Ubandoma dumps ADC after losing guber ticket, defects to APC in Sokoto
He announced his defection at the Asokoro residence of Senator Aliyu Wamakko, leader of the APC in Sokoto State and senator representing Sokoto North Senatorial District.
A former ally of ex-Sokoto State Governor and African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain, Aminu Tambuwal, Alhaji Sa’idu Ubandoma, has defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Ubandoma, who was the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in the 2023 general election, left the ADC after losing the party’s governorship ticket to former Deputy Governor Manir Dan’Iya.
He announced his defection at the Asokoro residence of Senator Aliyu Wamakko, leader of the APC in Sokoto State and senator representing Sokoto North Senatorial District.
In a statement issued by Wamakko’s media aide, Bashar Abubakar, Ubandoma said his decision to join the APC was influenced by Wamakko’s leadership style and the developmental projects being executed by Governor Ahmed Aliyu across Sokoto State.
According to him, the leadership qualities of the former governor and the current administration’s performance convinced him that the APC was the right platform to continue his political career.
Ubandoma, a former banker, was one of Tambuwal’s closest political associates during his administration. He served as Commissioner for Finance before being appointed Secretary to the State Government (SSG), a position regarded as the administrative hub of the government.
His political rise peaked ahead of the 2023 governorship election when Tambuwal reportedly overlooked several senior PDP figures, including his then deputy, Manir Dan’Iya, to hand him the party’s governorship ticket.
However, Ubandoma lost the election to APC candidate Ahmed Aliyu, who is now the governor of Sokoto State.
Following the 2023 polls, Ubandoma joined the ADC, where he sought the party’s governorship ticket ahead of the 2027 election but was defeated by Dan’Iya, Tambuwal’s former deputy.
His latest move to the APC is seen as another significant political realignment in Sokoto State as preparations intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
