The presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has appointed Omega Odunze as his Special Assistant on Community Mobilisation for the South-East as part of preparations for the 2027 presidential election.

The appointment was disclosed in a statement released by the Atiku Media Office and shared by the former Vice President’s media aide, Paul Ibe.

According to the statement, the appointment took effect from April 1, 2026. It is intended to strengthen grassroots mobilisation and improve strategic engagement across the South-East region in support of Atiku’s campaign activities ahead of the 2027 polls.

It stated that the move underscores the campaign’s commitment to grassroots participation, community engagement and collaboration with stakeholders across the region.

Odunze, an indigene of Imo State, is a literary scholar and the Chief Executive Officer of Khaimaenergy Ltd. He has worked in community development, humanitarian programmes, peacebuilding, agricultural empowerment and stakeholder engagement.

The statement said his professional experience includes consultancy assignments with CARE International (USA), the Community Mobile Clinic and Gender Base Centre, greenhouse-based agricultural empowerment initiatives, and Mercy Corps International (UK), where he contributed to community engagement and peacebuilding programmes.

As Special Assistant on Community Mobilisation (South-East), Odunze is expected to coordinate grassroots mobilisation efforts across the five South-East states.

His responsibilities will include working with zonal, state, local government, ward and polling unit coordinators, as well as engaging traditional rulers, community leaders, youth and women groups, professionals, faith-based organisations and civil society groups.

The statement added that the appointment forms part of the campaign’s broader strategy to promote grassroots participation and stakeholder engagement ahead of the 2027 general election.

It reaffirmed the campaign’s commitment to national unity, economic development, youth empowerment, security and good governance as it continues consultations and mobilisation activities across the country.
