Nwabali back between the sticks as Chippa United clinch Eastern Cape crown
Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali made a winning return to Chippa United, helping the South African club lift the Eastern Cape pre-season tournament title.
The Chilli Boys began their successful campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Ravens FC in the semi-finals to book a place in the final.
In the championship match, Chippa United were held to a 1-1 draw by Highbury FC in regulation time before emerging 4-2 winners in the ensuing penalty shootout to claim the trophy.
The triumph marks a perfect return for Nwabali, who recently rejoined the South African Premier League side after terminating his contract with the club five months ago.
The Nigeria international is expected to reclaim his place as Chippa United’s first-choice goalkeeper ahead of the 2026/27 South African Premier League season.
Chippa United are currently intensifying preparations for the new campaign, with Nwabali expected to play a key role in the team’s ambitions.
