A heartbreaking incident occurred on Wednesday when an 18-seater bus carrying prospective National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members from The Adeyemi Federal University of Education, Ondo, was involved in a deadly accident en route to the NYSC orientation camp in Gombe.

The crash has sent shockwaves through the academic community and grieving families. Reports indicate that the bus lost control along a northern highway, resulting in a catastrophic collision.

Authorities fear that 16 of the 18 passengers, including the driver, have died, while the remaining two are in critical condition, fighting for their lives.

The tragedy underscores ongoing concerns about road safety and transport conditions for students traveling long distances in Nigeria.

Officials from the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, are expected to initiate a full inquiry to determine the exact cause of the accident.

As of the time of reporting, neither the NYSC nor government representatives have issued formal statements addressing the incident.

This heartbreaking occurrence intensifies existing concerns about the safety of corps members who must travel long distances across the country for national service.
