The Kwara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dissolved all party caucuses across the state’s 16 local government areas as part of efforts to strengthen and reposition the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The decision was taken by the State Executive Committee and other key stakeholders during a closed-door meeting with the party’s leader and former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, during his recent homecoming and engagements with stakeholders in the state.

The PDP State Publicity Secretary, Olusegun Adewara, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday.

According to Adewara, the dissolution is the first step in a wider reorganisation of the party’s structures across Kwara State as the PDP prepares for the 2027 elections.

Adewаra said the party had commenced preparations for the 2027 elections and considered it necessary to refresh its structures, bring in new hands and broaden participation among its members.

He added that the move was also aimed at creating a more effective and inclusive political machinery capable of delivering electoral victory for the PDP at all levels in the 2027 elections.

According to him, the decision was taken within the powers vested in the State Executive Committee to undertake measures considered necessary to strengthen, reposition and reorganise the party in the overall interest of its members and electoral fortunes.

“The journey towards 2027 has effectively commenced, and the party considers it necessary to refresh its structures, bring in new hands, broaden participation and create a more effective and inclusive political machinery capable of delivering victory for the PDP at all levels,” Adewara said.

The party commended members of the dissolved caucuses for their dedication, loyalty, sacrifices and contributions to the growth of the PDP in Kwara State.

The PDP stressed that the dissolution should not be interpreted as a rejection of the contributions of members of the outgoing caucuses, adding that the party remained confident that they would continue to contribute their experience to its success.

“We sincerely appreciate all members of the outgoing caucuses for their dedication, sacrifices, loyalty and contributions to the growth and development of the PDP in Kwara State,” he said.

The PDP urged its members across the state to remain calm, united and committed to the party as it begins the process of constituting new caucuses.

The party said mechanisms for the recruitment, constitution and inauguration of the new caucuses across the 16 local government areas were already being put in place.

The latest development comes as political parties in the state intensify preparations and internal realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
