APC rally shooting: Police release Osun environment commissioner

The Osun State Police Command has confirmed the release of the State Commissioner for Environment and Sanitation, Moyowa Adejoorin, following his arrest over a shooting incident at an All Progressives Congress (APC) rally in Ilesa.

Adejoorin was arrested after gunshots were fired during the APC rally on Saturday, leaving four people injured, including a teenager identified as Tobi Ilesanmi.

The police spokesperson, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, said the commissioner was arrested after security operatives cordoned off the scene of the incident.

Ojelabi explained that Adejoorin’s vehicle was stopped at the scene, where an Amotekun personnel allegedly linked to the shooting was also found.

The police had commenced investigation into the incident before confirming Adejoorin’s release.

Ojelabi said, “Immediately the incident was reported, our personnel moved to the scene and cordoned off the area before some exhibits were recovered, which included expended cartridges and Amotekun personnel caps.

“Also, Mr Adejoorin was arrested at the scene and taken to the command for questioning as part of the investigation process.”

However, a video surfaced on social media on Sunday showing the commissioner leaving the police command.

Speaking with Very Nigerian, Ojelabi confirmed that Adejoorin had been released but said he could not provide an update on the Amotekun personnel arrested alongside him.

“It is true that the commissioner has been released on bail today, but I am yet to clear the situation with the Amotekun personnel arrested with him,” he said.
