Be reasonable for once, support Adeleke to defeat APC in Osun’ — Accord supporters storm Atiku’s social media pages

Supporters of the Accord Party have flooded the social media pages of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, urging the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to support Governor Ademola Adeleke in Saturday’s Osun State governorship election.

The calls came amid growing political manoeuvring among opposition parties ahead of the August 15 election, with some supporters arguing that the opposition should unite behind a single candidate to prevent the All Progressives Congress (APC) from gaining an advantage.

One commenter questioned the rationale behind the ADC’s campaign and urged the party to support Adeleke.

“Is this not a waste of time and funds? We all know that Osun is either for the Accord Party or APC. Support Accord and ask for payback later,” the commenter wrote.

Another supporter appealed directly to the ADC to back the incumbent governor.

“It’ll be wonderful to support Gov. Adeleke too, so your party people can benefit from his second term in office. Ire o!” the commenter said.

A third commenter warned that the ADC’s decision to contest separately could inadvertently benefit the APC.

“ADC will pave the way for APC victory on Saturday,” the supporter wrote.

The comments come as opposition parties intensify their campaigns and strategic calculations ahead of the election, with the ADC, Accord and APC among the major political forces in the race.

Atiku Leads ADC Mega Rally in Osogbo

The calls also came shortly after Atiku led a mega campaign rally of the ADC in Osogbo, where the party mobilised supporters ahead of Saturday’s election.

The former vice president urged voters in the state to support the ADC candidate, Najeem Salaam, insisting that the party offered a different political direction from the APC, Accord and other parties.

The rally was attended by several prominent ADC leaders, including former Senate President David Mark, former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola and former presidential candidate Dino Melaye.

Aregbesola, who serves as the ADC National Secretary, had also dismissed speculation that the party was negotiating an alliance with another political party or that Salaam would step down for another candidate.

He maintained that the ADC would contest the election independently and expressed confidence that the party would emerge victorious.

The August 15 election is expected to be closely contested, with Adeleke seeking another term under the Accord Party, Bola Oyebamiji flying the APC flag and Salaam representing the ADC.

With the election just days away, pressure is mounting on opposition parties to either maintain separate campaigns or explore strategic cooperation in a bid to prevent the APC from securing victory.
