Tinubu will get 70–80% of Kaduna votes in 2027 — Uba Sani

Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has dismissed claims of growing opposition to President Bola Tinubu in the North, predicting that the President could secure between 70 and 80 per cent of votes cast in Kaduna State in the 2027 presidential election.

Sani made the prediction during an interview on Channels Television, where he discussed the political realignments and growing competition ahead of the 2027 elections.

The governor said the perception that northern voters were turning against Tinubu was largely driven by political narratives and activities on social media rather than the situation on the ground.

According to him, neither the North nor Kaduna State was opposed to the President, adding that voters would ultimately judge the Tinubu administration based on its performance and the impact of its policies on their lives.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will move from 29 percent of votes to 70 to 80 percent,” Sani said.

He also said Kaduna’s political landscape had changed significantly since the 2023 presidential election, when former Vice President Atiku Abubakar defeated Tinubu in the state.

Atiku polled 554,360 votes in Kaduna, while Tinubu secured 399,293 votes.

Sani argued that the factors responsible for the 2023 result should not be expected to determine the outcome of the 2027 election, pointing to recent political realignments within the state.

He specifically cited the movement of politicians from opposition parties into the All Progressives Congress (APC), particularly in Southern Kaduna, as a development capable of influencing the voting pattern.

The governor also highlighted federal government projects in Kaduna under Tinubu, including the establishment of a Federal University of Science and Technology in Southern Kaduna and the development of a federal medical centre.

He said such interventions could strengthen the President’s support among voters in the state.

Sani acknowledged the contributions of former President Muhammadu Buhari and Tinubu to Kaduna’s development but said the state still required additional infrastructure and investment.

On former Kaduna governor Nasir El-Rufai and his political associates, amid reported tensions within the APC, Sani said he would avoid personality-driven politics.

“I don’t do politics of sentiments. I’m not going to talk about any personality here. I respect him. I value him,” he said.

The governor said his focus was on strengthening the APC and ensuring that the party effectively communicated its message to voters across Kaduna State.

He also cautioned Nigerians against accepting political promises without demanding details on how such promises would be funded.

Sani said voters should insist on concrete plans and explanations from politicians seeking their support ahead of the 2027 elections.

“Someone will come and sit here and tell you that when I become governor, or when I become president, I will ensure that every student is given N10 million. You allow him to walk away without asking: how would you do it?” he asked.

Asked whether there was a growing backlash against Tinubu in the North, Sani replied: “No way. It is not possible.”

He predicted that the President would perform strongly across the Northwest, Northeast and North-Central regions.

The governor also dismissed the notion that presidential elections could be won mainly through television appearances and social media campaigns.

According to him, successful political campaigns must extend to the grassroots, particularly the thousands of wards across the country.

“You don’t contest with the President by campaigning in Abuja,” Sani said, stressing that elections were “practical” and required sustained engagement with voters at the grassroots.

He maintained that the APC’s prospects in the 2027 election would depend largely on its ability to communicate the administration’s achievements, maintain grassroots structures and sustain engagement with voters across Kaduna and the wider northern region.
