A large crowd has welcomed the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senatorial candidate for Zamfara Central, Sanusi Bala Turaki Maituta, in Gusau, Zamfara State, ahead of the planned flag-off of his 2027 campaign activities.

Maituta arrived in the state capital amid a gathering of supporters and party members as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general election.

The politician and philanthropist is seeking to represent Zamfara Central in the Senate on the platform of the PDP, with his campaign centred on what he describes as Capacity, Experience, Exposure and Wisdom (C.E.E.W.).

His previously unveiled “2027 Policy Agenda and Strategic Development Blueprint” outlines his proposed priorities for the senatorial district, including security, education, youth empowerment, economic development, social welfare and grassroots infrastructure.

On security, Maituta has pledged to advocate stronger federal intervention against banditry and kidnapping, support legislation to strengthen security agencies and promote community-based intelligence gathering.

His education agenda includes scholarships, improved school infrastructure, vocational training, girl-child education and teacher development, while his youth empowerment plans focus on skills acquisition, entrepreneurship, agriculture and access to funding.

Maituta has also proposed greater support for small and medium-scale businesses, agricultural value chains, investment opportunities and access to finance for local businesses, women entrepreneurs and cooperatives.

His blueprint further highlights social protection for widows, orphans, persons with disabilities and other vulnerable residents, alongside improved healthcare outreach.

In terms of infrastructure, he has identified rural roads, electricity, clean water and healthcare facilities as areas requiring greater attention.

Maituta has also described “ending political slavery” as part of his vision for representation, with transparency, accountability and inclusive governance among the principles highlighted in his policy agenda.

The candidate, who has a record of philanthropic interventions in Zamfara, particularly in infrastructure, education, youth empowerment and social welfare, has said his legislative agenda would focus on attracting federal projects, protecting the interests of constituents and empowering youths and women.

His supporters believe his humanitarian activities and proposed development agenda have strengthened his grassroots profile ahead of the 2027 election.

The latest reception in Gusau comes as political parties and candidates step up mobilisation and engagement with voters ahead of the general election.
