FG must embrace Briquette Energy to rescue failing industries — Agricpreneur

Agricpreneur and Founder of Davidolar Farms, Olusegun Alabi, has called on the Federal Government to ramp up efforts toward adopting briquette-based renewable energy as a sustainable alternative to Nigeria’s erratic electricity supply.

Speaking on Monday while addressing members of the House of Representatives Press Corps at the National Assembly, Alabi described briquette energy as a game-changer capable of transforming agricultural productivity and driving economic growth, particularly in pineapple farming and processing.

He explained that briquettes produced from agro-waste can generate electricity, produce gas, and power industrial machinery at a significantly lower cost than diesel or grid power.

Alabi revealed that Davidolar Farms has concluded plans to deploy briquette-powered equipment at its upcoming pineapple processing facility, stressing that the technology has already been tested and validated through extensive research.

“Briquette energy can effectively replace conventional electricity.

Our findings show that the machines we are installing will run fully on briquette power.

This is not theory, it is a proven system,” he said.

According to him, once the factory becomes operational, Nigerians will witness firsthand how local innovation can provide practical solutions to the country’s lingering power challenges.

He urged journalists and stakeholders to visit the National Power Technology of Nigeria, Abuja, which he described as a research institution developing groundbreaking solutions that could reposition Nigeria’s energy sector. Alabi emphasized that stable power supply remains the backbone of national development.

“Many companies are shutting down due to high energy costs, yet briquette technology offers an affordable and sustainable alternative,” he noted.

The agricpreneur linked reliable energy to improved farming outcomes, pointing out that many farmers, especially pineapple growers, struggle to achieve optimal yields because they lack steady electricity for processing and storage.

He argued that a nationwide shift to briquette energy would save billions of naira annually by reducing diesel consumption, cutting generator maintenance costs, and preventing the collapse of agro-processing ventures.

According to him, broader adoption would also stimulate job creation, enhance value-chain competitiveness, and reduce operational costs for small and large agribusinesses alike.

Alabi urged government at all levels to embrace and support homegrown solutions, insisting that Nigeria has both the resources and the ingenuity required to resolve its energy and agricultural challenges.

“Nigeria is a great nation with what it takes to address its problems. We must work together to make the country great again,” he said.
