Northern State governors and traditional leaders have entered an emergency meeting at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim House in Kaduna as security challenges worsen across the region.

The leaders are discussing the growing cases of banditry, terrorism, kidnapping, and farmer–herder clashes that have led to many deaths and forced thousands of people from their homes in recent months.

The closed-door meeting is jointly chaired by the Chairman of the Northern Governors’ Forum and Governor of Gombe State, Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya, alongside the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III. Their talks are focused mainly on finding solutions to the rising insecurity affecting communities across Northern Nigeria.

Very Nigerian reports that insecurity in the northern part of the country has heightened in the last couple of weeks.

Recall that at least 24 schoolgirls were abducted by bandits in Kebbi State. However, they reportedly regained their freedom a few days after their abduction.

Similarly, bandits whisked away no fewer than 200 school children from a Catholic private school in Niger State, out of which 50 reportedly escaped and have been reunited with their families.
