2027: Igbo can’t do a four-year gambling —Okorocha rejects Obi Presidency, declare support for Tinubu
Former Imo State Governor and Senator, Rochas Okorocha, has declared support for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election, while expressing reservations about Peter Obi’s promise to serve only one term if elected president.
Okorocha acknowledged Obi’s personal qualities, describing the former Anambra State governor as a “fantastic gentleman” who is clear-minded. However, he argued that the Igbo people should not take what he described as a four-year gamble.
“Peter Obi is a fantastic gentleman; clear in his head. There’s nothing wrong with him, but Igbo can’t do a four-year gambling,” Okorocha said.
Despite his positive remarks about Obi, the former governor made his political preference clear by declaring support for Tinubu.
His position places the debate over Obi’s proposed single-term presidency at the centre of his explanation for backing the incumbent president ahead of the next general election.
Okorocha’s comments have added another dimension to the political conversation in the South-East as politicians and supporters continue to debate the region’s options ahead of 2027.
