Ronaldo beats Messi, other to win Best Ballon d’Or winner of All Time (B.O.A.T)
Cristiano Ronaldo has been named the winner of the B.O.A.T. (Ballon d’Or Of All Time) fan-voting initiative, with his 2008 Ballon d’Or-winning season voted the greatest in the award’s history.
The initiative was introduced to mark the 70th anniversary of the Ballon d’Or and allowed fans to vote for the best season by a player who had won the prestigious individual award at least twice.
However, the B.O.A.T. initiative is separate from the Super Ballon d’Or and does not represent an additional official Ballon d’Or trophy.
According to the announcement, fans were required to pay €1 to cast their votes.
The organisers also disclosed that 5,009 people voted multiple times during the exercise.
Of that number, 44 people voted between 10 and 26 times, while 300 people cast between five and nine votes each. Another 4,665 people voted between two and four times.
Ronaldo won the 2008 Ballon d’Or after an outstanding season with Manchester United, during which he helped the club win the Premier League and UEFA Champions League titles.

The fan-voting initiative sought to recognise the most outstanding individual season among players who had won the Ballon d’Or on at least two occasions.
