Atiku’s son unveils two-million-man mobilisation plan for Tinubu’s re-election

Alhaji Abba Abubakar, son of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, has unveiled plans to mobilise support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Abubakar, founder and chairman of the Haske Bola Tinubu Organisation (HBTO), announced the plan on Friday at the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Secretariat in Abuja.

The development follows his defection to the ruling party.

He said the organisation was preparing to launch a nationwide mobilisation programme, beginning with a two-million-man march across the six geopolitical zones, starting from Abuja.

“Looking ahead, HBTO is preparing for an ambitious nationwide political mobilisation programme.

“As part of this strategy, we intend to commence a two-million-man mobilisation march across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, beginning from Abuja,” he said.

Abubakar said the organisation would initially focus on supporting the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, whom he described as a key political figure in its mobilisation structure.

He said the group was working towards securing Tinubu’s victory in the FCT and Rivers State in the 2027 presidential election, in line with Wike’s political objective.

The HBTO chairman also disclosed that the organisation was planning a major political mobilisation exercise in Rivers State during the first week of November.

As part of its efforts to complement the Tinubu administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda with practical interventions, Abubakar announced plans to introduce a transportation support initiative, beginning with the provision of 10 luxury buses.

According to him, the initiative is designed to ease transportation difficulties, reduce commuting costs for Nigerians and demonstrate that political support should go beyond public declarations to include tangible benefits for citizens.

“We intend to commence this programme in the FCT before progressively expanding the initiative to other parts of the federation.

“For us, supporting the president’s Renewed Hope Agenda must translate into meaningful actions that positively affect the everyday lives of Nigerians,” he said.

Abubakar said HBTO had begun activating its structures, adding that members and supporters were preparing to demonstrate the organisation’s reach and mobilisation capacity.

He explained that the initiative was not merely about attracting large crowds but building a coordinated grassroots network capable of translating political support into electoral results.

The organisation, he said, would establish structures across the six geopolitical zones, strengthen its state and zonal chapters, engage community stakeholders and collaborate with other political groups to support Tinubu’s re-election.

Addressing his political decision to support the president, Abubakar said political conviction was a matter of personal judgement, conscience and individual freedom.

He maintained that establishing and leading HBTO was a deliberate choice made in his personal capacity, adding that he respected the right of others to hold different political views.

“I hold no reservations about the right of others to their differing political opinions, just as I expect my own convictions to be respected.

“Our democracy is strengthened when individuals are free to make independent political choices, engage in constructive dialogue and support the leadership and political platforms they believe best represent their aspirations.

“It is within this spirit that HBTO was established,” he said.

Abubakar explained that the organisation was formed to unite Nigerians who shared confidence in Tinubu’s leadership and reform agenda.

He said its objectives included building an inclusive and nationally coordinated movement to mobilise political support, engage communities, communicate government policies and participate in the democratic process.

He added that HBTO intended to take its message beyond political gatherings by engaging ordinary Nigerians and explaining the objectives and expected benefits of government policies.

Assessing the Tinubu administration, Abubakar said its reforms had involved difficult adjustments for Nigerians but argued that the progress, opportunities and long-term benefits of the policies should also be recognised.

“Our political direction is informed by our assessment of the reforms and policy interventions undertaken by President Tinubu since assuming office. We acknowledge that the reforms have come with difficult adjustments for Nigerians.

“However, we believe it is equally important to recognise the progress, opportunities and long-term benefits that several of these initiatives are designed to deliver,” he said.

He added that the administration had introduced interventions across different sectors to address longstanding structural challenges and reposition the country for sustainable economic growth.
