BREAKING: Wike ally, Abdulrahman Mohammed, assumes office as PDP Acting Chairmanship
Abdulrahman Mohammed, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Vice Chairman for North Central, has assumed office as the Acting National Chairman of the party at its national headquarters in Abuja, intensifying the ongoing leadership crisis within the party.
His assumption of office followed his declaration by the Anyanwu-led National Working Committee, which had earlier announced the suspension of Umar Damagum and several other officials.
Speaking to supporters and journalists, Mohammed stated, “Today, we are taking responsibility to restore order and unity in our great party. The PDP belongs to its members, and no one individual can hold it hostage.”
He lamented the party’s decline over the years, noting, “From being the ruling party for 16 uninterrupted years to being an opposition party for over 10 years now; from being formidable to now humbled due to defections.”
Mohammed said he accepted the position “through the mercy of God and the instrumentality of very critical stakeholders,” pledging to heal internal divisions and rebuild the PDP ahead of the 2027 elections.
“My job as Acting National Chairman is to heal the party of its wounds… I cannot do this job alone. I will need your support and commitment,” he added.
Umar Damagum and his loyalists were notably absent during the takeover ceremony.
