BREAKING: Gov Diri officially defects to APC
Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, has officially defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), ending weeks of speculation about his political future.
The defection ceremony, held in Yenagoa, the state capital, drew thousands of jubilant supporters from all eight local government areas, many of whom wore white T-shirts to mark the occasion.
Crowds of enthusiastic party members were also seen singing and drumming along major streets of the city in celebration of the governor’s move.
Diri, who recently resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), formally declared his allegiance to the APC, signaling a major political shift in Bayelsa’s political landscape.
Already, the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, the Governor of Delta State, Elder Sheriff Oborevwori, and his predecessor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, the Governor of Ondo State, Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, former Governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole, Minister of Regional Development, Engineering Abubakar Momoh, have arrived at the state capital for the event.
