Fresh twist in PDP crisis as INEC recognises Wike-backed faction

The Independent National Electoral Commission has quietly recognised the National Caretaker Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party backed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and led by Abdulrahman Mohammed.

Mohammed and the party’s Acting National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, were among party leaders present at the first quarterly meeting between INEC and leaders of political parties.

The meeting is strictly meant for national chairmen and national secretaries of all registered political parties recognised by the commission, a development seen as an indication of INEC’s acceptance of the Wike-backed PDP leadership arrangement.

The Federal High Court in Ibadan had directed the commission to recognise the Abdulrahman Mohammed led caretaker Committee as the genuine leadership of the party.
